2NE1'S PROFILE

2NE1 is a four member, South Korean girl group under YG Entertainment consisting of Lee Chaerin (CL), Park Bom, Sandara Park (Dara), and Gong Minji (Minzy). Rocking their unique style since 2009; from fierce Electronic Hip-hop to R&B, and even to a light pop-styled music, 2NE1 has captured the interest of the Korean Music industry and has also gained immense popularity internationally!

Even before their debut, news of the “Female Big Bang” became a hot topic for those familiar with YG Entertainment. With a long list of pre-debut activities, 2NE1 started to gain fans even before their official debut. Then, on March 27, 2009, New Evolution of the 21st Century or 2NE1 was featured in a commercial for the LG ‘Lollipop’ cell phone, with label-mates Big Bang. The collaboration was a smashing success, the immense popularity of the song helped it reach #1 on many music portals despite not being promoted on music programs, the MV was also well received, gaining millions of views on both Korea’s GOMTV and Youtube. Based on this preview, 2NE1’s official debut became one of the most anticipated events of 2009.

2NE1 finally made an official debut at SBS’ Inkigayo on May 17, 2009. The quartet performed their chart-topping digital single ‘Fire‘produced byTeddy Park of 1TYM. The group splashed on the scene feisty and fierce, with 100% girl power. 2NE1 truly gave a strong and lasting impression to the public and to the KPOP world.

After the release of their fist self-titled Mini Album, 2NE1 started promotions for their title track ‘I Don’t Care’. The song topped many charts and won on various music shows. As 2009 wound down, and with an ever-increasing number of awards and honours, 2NE1 gained the title ‘Super Rookies of 2009’. Since then they have continued to build on that success with the release a full length Album, ‘To Anyone’ as well as another Mini Album, both of which have gained an incredible amount of critical as well as commercial success.

In 2012 and beyond 2NE1 is planning for a U.S debut, further expansion into Japan and a continuation of their success in Korea.

Since then the girls have released chart-topping singles and recently released their second full album ‘Crush’.

This is just the beginning for the Girl Group and they continue to chant “Nolza” every step of the way!

The fierce, sexy and passionate leader of 2NE1 instantly grabs your attention with her assertive and immense stage presence. However, it is her charismatic off-stage personality that seals your admiration for her. At first known for her rapping and general performing energy, CL has later surprised us with her wonderful vocal talents. It is her unrelenting stage charisma that is the foundation of 2NE1’s live performance style. She is the foundation on which the other girls flourish and her she seriously manages her role as leader.

CL was born in Seoul, South Korea, but travelled frequently with her family. Hence she spent much of her youth in other countries including, Japan and France. Thus, CL was exposed to a variety of cultures and languages throughout her youth. CL became an YG Trainee in late 2006, contributing to various Big Bang albums and officially part of the YG family in late 2007. After her debut with 2NE1, she was featured in the track ‘The Leaders’ by Big Bang member, G-Dragon and Teddy of 1TYM. She and fellow 2NE1 member Minzy released a popular digital single, ‘Please Don’t Go’ in late 2009.

The granddaughter of famous traditional dancer Gong Ok-jin, Minzy was discovered after someone uploaded a dance audition clip of hers onto the internet and it caught the attention of YG’s Yang Hyun Seok. He scouted her into YGE shortly after seeing the clip.

2NE1’s maknae has evolved alot over the last few years. She consistently improves and reveals new talents. Dubbed  as Eromaknae, when she first emerged on the scene it was her sexy dance moves that grabbed everyone’s attention. Since then Minzy has shown that she is so much more than a one-dimensional idol. Minzy sings, dances, raps, draws, designs clothes, builds Gundnams, is learning to speak three languages, knits….and has an endless list of other hobbies.

Known as 2NE1’s vitamin, Sandara Park is wise, beautiful, born with a great personality, and adapts well to her environment. Dara is regarded as an expert in promotions and her bouncy personality has gained her an immense following in Korea and internationally. Her voice although not as strong as the other three members, is the sweet and soft balance that is an essential element to 2NE1’s songs. It is her hard work and perseverance that has seen her constantly soaring to new heights

Born in Busan, South Korea she moved to the Philippines while still young, Fluent in Tagalog and Korean, she became a big star in the Philippines and was runner up for the reality show “Star Circle Quest 2004“. She joined YG Ent in 2007 and first made splashes in the Korean industry with an appearance in Gummy‘s ‘I’m Sorry‘ MV. Park Bom, 2NE1’s eldest, yet considered to be the youngest at heart, is a unique 8D personality.  Her love for corn and quirky personality has earned her the nickname “Alien” Bom is almost universally adored. Most importantly though, she is the owner of a voice that gives people shivers.

Bom was born in Seoul, South Korea, but moved to the U.S when she was a teenager to study. She graduated high school and enrolled into Lesley University with a major in psychology, where she fell in love with music through Mariah Carey. Hence, with encouragement from her aunt (and unawareness of her parents), she transferred to the Berklee College of Music to pursue a music career. She returned to Korea and auditioned to become a singer at YGE, but was rejected for three years, until she was finally accepted and immediately became a trainee.

Making her first appearance at Big Bang‘s First Showcase with ‘We Belong Together’ and ‘Stand Up For Love’, Bom went on to feature with the likes of Lee Hyori, Lexy, Kim Ji Eun, and Red Roc. As part of 2NE1, she has also released solo singles, ‘You and I’ and ‘Don’t Cry’ both of which have been chart toppers. She has also continued to collaborate with YG Artists including, G-Dragon and Lee Hi.
